Workshop Basics

Supervisor Kyle with his Cutting Board

In this 2.5 hour class, we will walk through the most commonly used tools in the workshop as we move from Raw Lumber to Dressed 4 Sides (D4S), ending with a fully finished single piece Cutting Board of your own design!

The main project in this course can be completed by most within 2 hours time.  This leaves plenty of time for additional instruction on all machines as required, as well as to detail & finish your project.

You will receive training on the safe usage of the following tools: band saw, miter saw, jointer, planer, table saw, router table,  and drill press. You will have ample time to try out each tool.

This is a Required course for anyone wishing to use the Workshop tools at Halifax Tool Library, Regardless of Individual Skill Level.

Please dress appropriately for working in a woodshop:
Closed-toe shoes, hair tied in the back, no loose clothing or long baggy sleeves.

If you have your own Safety Glasses & Ear Protection we recommend you bring them, but we do have some on hand!
