Workshop

The Halifax Tool Library has a Workshop space Inside our walls!

This shop is well fitted with dust collection, compressed air, two bandsaws, a 6″ jointer, 12″ planer, two lathes, a compound miter saw, several routers, sanders, oscillating spindle sander, and a professional grade Saw Stop table saw.

All workshop shifts are Supervised by Volunteers that have experience in various trades that are able to help you with your project plans and cuts!

Use of the Workshop is Included in the cost of your Annual Tool Library Membership. It is open during the same hours as the Tool Library.  Reservations are encouraged.

PRIOR to using the Workshop, ALL Members and Volunteers MUST take the Workshop Basics Course.

There will be no exceptions, Regardless of Skill Level. This class walks you through all of the tools in the Workshop, helps keep our Members Safer, and helps in reducing wear and tear on our Workshop Tools.

Come use our well appointed and brightly lit workshop to work on your projects!

Workshop Basics Class

In this 3 hour class, we will walk you through all of the tools in the workshop as we move from Raw Lumber to a fully finished single piece Cutting Board of your own design!

The main project in this course can be completed by most within 2 hours time.  This leaves plenty of time for additional instruction on all machines as required, as well as to detail & finish your project.

You will receive training on the safe usage of the following tools: band saw, miter saw, jointer, planer, table saw, router table,  and drill press. You will have ample time to try out each tool.

This is a Required course for anyone wishing to use the Workshop tools at Halifax Tool Library, Regardless of Skill Level.

Please dress appropriately for working in a woodshop:
Closed-toe shoes, hair tied in the back, no loose clothing.

If you have your own Safety Glasses we recommend you bring them.
